Community worker Charlie Bhowmick is giving a talk and slideshow
as part of Keighley Library's centenary celebrations.Detailing
the changes to the town over a 50 years period, the talk will
take place at the library itself on Tuesday, April 20 at 2.30pm.
Originally from Calcutta, India, Charlie moved to Keighley when
he was only 17. Invited to the Devonshire Street Congregational
Church youth club, he converted to Christianity in 1955.
It was through the church that he met his wife Cynthia, 65, and
the couple have two sons. The 66-year old was the first Asian to
work in local government in Keighley. A keen cricket fan, he threw
himself into community projects on his retirement. He is now heavily
involved with 'Inter-Faith', which was launched in 2000 to help
bring the many groups in Keighley closer together and promote
friendship and harmony. Charlie has also donated a copy of his
slides to the library archive, as a permanent resource.
