Memorial
to Herbert Hugill M.B.E (1872-1919), who was Secretary
for 10 years of the Keighley Literary Society, situated
on the wall outside the Reference Library. The motto at
the foot of the memorial reads, "Death opens unknown
doors: it is most grand to die."
During
the First World War Hugill was also the secretary of the
Keighley War Savings Association, and the town contributed
over £5 million in loans.
