"The greatest composer in the world today. The most exquisite and the most precious mind in music this country has ever produced - and for the last fifty years any country has produced - is an Englishman. He is Frederick Delius."

Life And Times In Bradford

DeliusFrederick Delius was born 29 January 1862 at 6 Claremont, Bradford. Christened Fritz Albert Theodore, he was the fourth child of the German wool merchant Julius Delius and his wife Elise.

Through these pages you will see not only the developing years of Frederick Delius as a child and a young man in Bradford but also the parallel development of the city where he was born and grew up.

These pages were first seen as a foyer exhibition in Bradford Central Library in the summer of 2006 as part of the 'Delius Inspired' festival. This online exhibition similarly celebrates the life and times of Frederick Delius in Bradford. For an appreciation of the music of Delius see the Delius Collection in the local studies department at Bradford Central Library.
