Julius Delius first appears on the census in Bradford as a stuff merchant. British subject, born Prussia

1856

Julius returns to Bielefeld, Prussia to marry Elise Pauline Kroening

1862

Fritz Theodore Albert, fourth child of Julius and Elise Delius is born 29 January at 6 Claremont, Bradford

1865

Julius Delius becomes a founder member of the Bradford Subscription Concerts at St George's Hall

1867

The new Wool Exchange opens in Market Street, Bradford

Fritz is sent to Sweden but travels to Norway where he falls in love with the country whose landscape and traditional songs exert a strong influence on his music in later life. Sent to St Etienne but is bored and gambles in Monte Carlo to raise money to pursue musical interests
