1900

Begins work on 'A Village Romeo And Juliet'. Financially embarrassed

1901

Julius Delius dies. Fritz's health shows first signs of deterioration as a result of syphilis contracted several years earlier. Sells off most of the Florida plantation. Brother Max declared insolvent

1902

Delius and Co. passes to new owners

1903

Composes 'Sea-Drift'. Marries Jelka Rosen. The couple continue to live at the house in Grez, France, owned by Jelka and her mother. Fritz is replaced by Frederick as the first name of Delius from now on

1907

Frederick goes to London and meets Thomas Beecham. Piano concerto performed at Promenade Concert under Henry Wood. Composes 'Brigg Fair', 'Appalachia' performed in London

1908

Composes 'In A Summer Garden' and 'Songs Of Sunset'

1910

Frederick's health deteriorates even more. 'A Village Romeo And Juliet' given at Covent Garden

1912

'Sea-Drift' performed at Birmingham Festival. Sees his mother for the last time. Summer in Italy. Composes 'First Cuckoo In Spring'

1914

In London for first performance of 'First Cuckoo In Spring'. Returns to Grez in July but flees German advance at end of August. German performances at an end. The German hatred of England leads to Delius's music not being played but despite anti-British feeling he retains his British nationality

1915

Stays in London with Henry Wood

1916

Returns to Grez

1917

Returns to England until end of war. Financially pressed as German investments are frozen

1918

Goes to Biarritz for cure

1919

Delius's music re-established in Germany after war

1921

Last visit to Bradford of Frederick Delius for the Centenary Concert of the Old Choral Society when he heard a performance of 'Sea Drift'

1922

First performance of 'Requiem' in London. Loses use of both hands
